A Dream Deferred: Beginning my Motorcycle Journey

It has been a dream long deferred. A fantasy, really. Two wheels, the horizon ahead and the past behind me.
Not in an entirely escapist kind of way, though I admit the desire to escape the mundane humdrum of daily life, or even society in general, holds a very real appeal.
So, I got my bike and, after what we will call a shaky start, I began to ride.
I have been slowly building confidence, pushing my limits and ranging farther and farther from my current residence. I cannot quite call it home.
The learning curve is real. Starting in middle age rather than in my late teens or early twenties has definitely changed the way I experience this newfound hobby, assuming hobby is even the appropriate word. Some would call it a lifestyle, but with about 450 miles under my belt, that feels like jumping the gun.
At some point, though, I would like it to become one.
I imagine the open road beneath me, my partner on the back admiring the view and snapping the occasional photograph to send to friends back home. There would be only a few firm destinations and plenty of space between them.
I know that may not sound particularly realistic to some people, but not having a fixed plan, only a couple of certain destinations, offers the ultimate freedom and flexibility. For me, that was the point of the motorcycle in the first place. Getting out and having the freedom to explore whatever lies beyond the familiar.
I honestly do not have much else to report yet. I have not traveled far enough.
I simply wanted to send an update into the ether and leave a record that this is where it began.
Maybe I will look back on it someday. Maybe someone else will find it and feel inspired to begin something of their own.
